Bring back the Burlesque!

Posted by admin under Uncategorized on Sunday Jul 18, 2010

Over at Burlesque Daily a couple of weeks ago, Jo was introduced to this inquiry

“Why do you think so many of todays Burlesque performers don’t take pride in keeping their body in shape? Is burlesque really just an excuse for some out of shape women to take their clothes off and try to feel good about themselves?”

to which she gave a sharp smart response.
Love her.

I find it heartbreaking that there are people even in burlesque who believe that only the “fittest” have the right to feel good about themselves (as though that’s all there were to be confident about in life anyway…) and that the rest are left to try and find an excuse to do the same.

This seems to be part of a theme these days that has really started to get me down.

In my eyes, Burlesque is a sexy, interactive, humourous and theatrical outlet for creative expression and self celebration. While drawn to the glamour and rhinestones like a crow to a tin pie pan, my favorite acts are still, more often than not, those that stay true to the vaudevillian tone of parody and theatrics; the acts that are acts.

Lately I’m starting to feel like burlesque is fighting a trend to lean away from it’s roots and morph into a Las Vegas showgirl pageant style competition. Performers seem to be under more and more pressure lately to look like Burlesque barbie dolls, with “perfect” bodies, eating disorders and implants.

Am I the only one who is worried that burlesque is going to get hijacked by society’s superficial standards, like almost everything else in North America?

Blue Light Burlesque – Post Show Praise

Posted by admin under Uncategorized on Thursday Jun 17, 2010

A loud and resounding thank you ever so much to everyone who came out to be a part of the show as Blue Light Burlesque proudly participated in Montreal’s St-Ambroise Fringe Festival!

I was fortunate enough to share a stage graced by
the talent and beauty of the famous Mlle Oui Oui Encore,
her partner in crime, Blue Eyes,
the sexy rock and roll magic of Vincent C,
Zafirah the belly dancer who oozes sensuality out of every pore of her body,
our handsome and charming MC, Peter J. Radomski,
the dynamic duo – Miss Rouge à Lèvres and French Kiss,
the adorable Stella Luna and her partner Milton Clark,
the ever so delicious Miss Miah,
the stunning and statuesque Lady Josephine and the saucy but Fuhrious Nina.

What a talented, creative, sexy gang of artists!
What a wonderfully interactive, supportive and sexy audience!
I couldn’t be happier or more proud.
I love my job.

I love your guts! All of them!

Posted by admin under Uncategorized on Thursday May 20, 2010

Dear Lovely Audience,

Last night was wonderful and all the more so because of you.

The cast was fantastic as always and the guest performers…

Magenta Diamond was crazy amazing with her Geisha routine. Our MC, Peter Radomski, so courageous as he barely flinched when Magenta snapped his cigarette in half with her whip!

Zafirah’s belly dancing was absolutely mesmerizing.

Thank you all for coming out and making the show a grand success.

Bisous
